World Humanitarian Day: Uniting as ‘One Humanity’
With more than 130 million people around the world in need of humanitarian assistance to overcome food shortages, lack of drinking water and health threats, and over 65 million people forced to flee their homes due to conflict and disaster, the work done by humanitarian aid workers is more important than ever.
Every year on the 19 August, World Humanitarian Day offers an opportunity to celebrate the spirit that inspires humanitarian work around the globe. It presents a chance to pause and remember those who face danger and adversity or even lost their lives in their efforts to help people in need, as together we stand as One Humanity.
The Aid International Development Forum (AIDF) celebrates the spirit that inspires humanitarian work around the globe, highlighting the importance of innovation, knowledge exchange and cross-sector collaboration to reduce suffering, save lives and deliver better assistance for people in need. With technological innovations advancing rapidly, humanitarian and development actors are looking for best ways to utilise digital platforms for improving disaster response and progress toward achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Global Disaster Relief Summit will gather senior professionals from governments, NGOs, UN agencies, investors and the private sector to discuss practical challenges, new ways of working, and latest innovations for the humanitarian and development sector, as well as forward-looking advice.
