Dear colleague,
Humanitarian needs are growing at an extraordinary pace. Humanitarian aid alone cannot address the needs of the more than 65 million displaced and 98.5 million that have been affected by disasters. The World Disasters Report 2016 makes the case for a different approach to humanitarian action, one that strives to strengthen the resilience of at-risk communities.
Highlighting the need to strengthen health resilience the Aid & International Development Forum, in partnership with B Medical Systems, has released an infographic exploring health and WASH in sub-Saharan East Africa. The infographic provides an overview of the current health threat posed by communicable diseases, including HIV/AIDS, malaria and cholera.
From providing small-scale farmers in developing countries with real-time weather and market data to providing invaluable health information and services to remote locations, technology innovation is helping building local capacities, empowering vulnerable people and rural communities, as well as enabling delivery of the SDGs.
To discover innovations and technologies supporting the SDGs join the 2nd annual Aid & Development Africa Summit in Nairobi, and discuss with 300+ leading humanitarian and development experts how to improve aid delivery and development strategy in sub-Saharan East Africa.
With best regards,
AIDF Team

The right to food is a basic human right; however, some 795 million people in the world do not have enough food to lead a healthy and active life. On 16th October, people around the world came together to declare their commitment to eradicate hunger in our lifetime. When it comes to hunger, “the only acceptable number is zero.”

[infographic] Communicable Diseases in sub-Saharan East Africa
The recent AIDF infographic provides a snapshot of the current health situation in sub-Saharan East Africa. Communicable diseases remain a major public health challenge in the African region, causing a significant burden of illness, disability and mortality. Contributing to the problem is the frequent occurrence of epidemic outbreaks driven by multiple factors, including: weak public health systems, natural disasters or civil unrest leading to displacement of populations and overcrowding, and poor environmental conditions favouring disease transmission.
