Changing the world, one transfer at a time
Changing the world, one transfer at a time
NGOs may not seem the most typical participants in the foreign exchange market, but they require the same currency strategies as international businesses. How to procure emerging market currencies and volatile exchange rates are issues affecting NGOs, and getting it wrong comes at a high price. There are approximately 1.5 million NGOs in the US (HumanRights.Gov) and this number is only set to grow over the next five years. The recession proved a mixed blessing, with the drop in charitable giving causing NGOs to look for more cost effective and innovative ways of managing both risk and currency.

How Ethiopia Went from Famine Crisis to Green Revolution
How Ethiopia Went from Famine Crisis to Green Revolution

July 13, 2015 marked the 30th anniversary of the Live Aid concert for Ethiopia organized by Bob Geldof to mobilize funding for famine relief.

"The AIDF summit has been really great for me personally. My background is in communication with communities and that’s what I’m working at the moment with ETC. So to see that across all of the presentations there has really been a theme of involving communities more in humanitarian response is really nice. The other thing with the AIDF forum is that it brings such adversity of actors. Yesterday we were looking at a presentation from a very small NGO in India right up to very big private sector agencies. I think its very good that we are all here for three days to be able to network and leverage each others expertise and particularly looking at private and public partnerships as well as looking at the way NGO’s and the humanitarians can really work better with the private sector."

"One thing that strikes me more than anything is that this is a platform for practitioners to come together and exchange their information, just as much as at the formal seminars and discussions as well as meeting during breaks and exchanging cards. I seldom see this degree of interaction amongst participants and this will serve them well because different people, from different countries and different parts of the region are working on similar and related areas and in exchange in dollar for dollar that could be great investment. So in that sense I’m very heartened by the emerging success of this event."
