Use of ICT and mobile technologies to better support refugees
|
|
|
|
Dear colleague,
With over 65.3 million displaced people and 21.3 million refugees worldwide, only one per cent have been resettled. Aiming to encourage governments and the global public to work together to protect and assist forcibly displaced people, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, launched its #WithRefugees petition on World Refugee Day on 20 June.
Over a half of the refugees are children, who require access to education and a safe place to live. However, even in crisis situations, 99% of children see education as a priority, as pointed out at the Aid & Development Asia Summit 2016 last month. Yet, less than two per cent of emergency response funding goes toward education.
Aid & International Development Forum will host a dedicated panel to discuss response to current global refugee crisis, with focus on the use of ICT and mobile technologies to better support refugees. The panel will take place on 8th September as part of the Global Disaster Relief Summit in Washington D.C.
Also, if you have an innovative app that supports worldwide disaster response activities and you’d like to showcase it at the “Planet of the Apps” during our Summit, please get in touch with Sonja Ruetzel at sruetzel@aidforum.org or simply reply to this email.
We look forward to hearing from you,
Warm regards,
AIDF Team

Ericsson Ltd (telecommunications) has made the decision to establish the Emergency Wallet in order to supply African countries struggling with the cost of crises.
