Dear colleague,
This month’s newsletter brings attention to the role of healthcare and immunisation in sustainable development. While World Health Day (7 April) highlighted the importance of ensuring health and well-being for everyone, at every stage of life, the World Immunisation Week (24-30 April) raised awareness about the importance of vaccines in protecting people against disease and the role of immunisation in achieving the 2030 Agenda.
Despite significant progress made over the last decade to meet health related targets, 1 in 19 children in Southeast Asia die before their fifth birthday, which represents the highest child mortality rate in the world. In light of the upcoming Aid and Development Asia Summit, the AIDF has released two infographics. The first infographic explores agriculture and food security in Southeast Asia, whilst the second looks into donor funding and financing of humanitarian needs in Myanmar. Both infographics point out two key priorities that failed to be fully financed - health and education. Multi-sectoral interventions are required to strengthen health service access and delivery, whilst promoting livelihoods and reducing poverty.
With best regards,
AIDF Team
