100 Must-Follow Twitter Accounts in Disaster Relief & Development

The Aid and International Development Forum (AIDF) has released a list of leading Twitter accounts in disaster response and development. Inspired by the 9th annual Global Disaster Relief & Development Summit, AIDF’s 100 Must-Follow Twitter List includes influencers, NGOs, UN agencies, foundations, charities and media with highest levels of engagement, number of followers and relevance of tweets to the issues of humanitarian aid and disaster relief.
Taking place on 6-7 September in Washington D.C., the Global Disaster Relief & Development Summit is an independent platform uniting humanitarian and development practitioners, policy makers and business leaders to bring disaster resilience and sustainable development the forefront of the global agenda. In addition to panel discussions, there will be keynote presentations and thematic roundtables on disaster management, emergency procurement, health & WASH, humanitarian logistics, ICT & data strategy, partnerships and financial inclusion. Visit http://disaster-relief.aidforum.org to learn more about the conference and to see the full conference agenda!
Amongst the seven UN agencies that made it to the list, the three highest ranked are @WFP (United Nations World Food Programme), @UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund) and @Refugees (United Nations Refugee Agency).
Fifteen individuals are featured in the list of AIDF 100 Must-Follow Twitter Accounts including Helen Clark (@HelenClarkNZ), Margareta Wahlström (@WahlstromM) and Jo Scheuer (@ScheuerJo). The Voice of America (@VOANews), Guardian’s @GdnDevelopment and @Devex are amongst the leading media and news sites featured, which tweet more than once a day.
The impact of technology on disaster relief and development efforts is evidenced by a number of NGOs advocating use of information and communication technology (ICT) for aid and development. Amongst those who made it to the list are The Economist's @TechChange, Mobile4Dev @GSMAm4d and Development Gateway (@DGateway).
